Rev Dr Paul Thompson
Principal

Originally from the UK, Dr Paul trained for ministry twenty years ago with Oak Hill Bible College, London, where he also met his Malaysian wife, Yu Li. After eight years in local church ministry in West London, Paul switched to studying to prepare for future ministry in Malaysia. A MTh in Theology & Hermeneutics and a PhD in New Testament with Union School of Theology in Wales followed. Paul has been teaching for Equip since 2021, initially online during the pandemic, and in person since he and his wife relocated to Malaysia in April 2022. Paul teaches New Testament and Theology subjects, and now serves as Equip’s Academic Dean, with overall responsibility for the Equip’s degree programme.

Nick Gonyea
Dean of Students

Nick Gonyea serves as the Dean of Students and Instructor of Biblical Greek at Equip Seminary, where he has been serving since 2020. Before his time at Equip, he also served in local church ministry, first in youth ministry, at the International Church at Mont’ Kiara, then in preaching and small group leadership at Gospel City Church KL, where he was a founding member. Nick is originally from Nashville, Tennessee, in the United States, and holds an MDiv from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Master of Arts (MATS) in New Testament from Regent College.

Rev. Dr. Michael P Jensen

The Rev. Dr Michael P Jensen has taught theology in the UK, Malaysia, and Australia, and is the author of Martyrdom and Identity: The Self on Trial (2010) among other works. He is currently the Rector of St Mark’s Darling Point Anglican Church in Sydney, Australia and was formally a professor of theology at Moore Theological College, Sydney. He is working on books on Anglican theology and theological anthropology. 

Rev Dr Kyle Essary

Dr Kyle holds a PhD in biblical studies and focuses his research on Old Testament narrative, cultural identity in Genesis, and biblical theology. He grew up in the United States, although he has also lived in Yemen, China, and for more than a decade—Malaysia. He is married to Jamie, and God has blessed them with four children. He serves as a lecturer in biblical studies for several seminaries in SE Asia, was the church planting pastor of Covenant Baptist Church in Melaka, and currently serves as an elder at Gospel City Church in Kuala Lumpur.

Rev Dr Willis (Bill) Salier

Dr Bill currently works as a consultant with Gafcon, facilitating a network of theological colleges within the Anglican communion. He is also on the Council of the Gospel Coalition Australia. He has been a primary school teacher and worked as an ordained Anglican minister in Sydney’s southwest. He lectured in New Testament at Moore College, Sydney and was recently the Principal of Youthworks College. He loves Jesus, John’s Gospel, and thinking about teaching and learning. He is married with three daughters and is a member of St Barnabas’ Anglican Church, Broadway. His spare time is spent walking and listening to podcasts.

Rev Dr Elliot Ku

Elliot is a minister of the Presbyterian Church of Australia and currently serves as the Lead Pastor of The Well Church. He was born and raised in Malaysia for many years before his family moved to Sydney Australia. Elliot loves his calling as a pastor and enjoys seeing the Gospel applied and lived out. He completed a DMin in Pastoral Ministry at Biola University (Talbot School of Theology) and is currently working on a PhD in Theology (with a focus on disability theology) at the Australian Catholic University. In addition to pastoring a local church, Elliot also teaches church history and preaching at Christ College, Sydney. He is married to Sherilyn and they are proud parents of one daughter.

Dr Peter Lau

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Australia, Dr Peter, along with his wife and three children, lived in Malaysia for eight years. During their time there, he taught at Seminari Theoloji Malaysia (STM) and they attended SIB Seremban, Pantai Baptist Church and CDPC Puchong. Currently based in Sydney, he teaches for Equip and STM and serves as an adjunct lecturer at SMBC. Two afternoons a week he also works as a medical general practitioner. His PhD was earned from the University of Sydney and his writing interests encompass Ruth, Esther, Ezekiel, Psalms and Ecclesiastes. Presently, he’s working on a commentary on Chronicles.

Chris Wong

Chris Wong practises law and is a partner in her own legal firm in Petaling Jaya. After her law degree, she obtained her Masters in Christian Studies from  Malaysia Bible Seminary (MBS) and later her M(Th) in Theology from the Asian Graduate School of Theology (AGST Alliance).

She has accreditation with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, at the highest level “E” in Biblical Hebrew Grammar and has also completed a course reading selected texts in particular that of Isaiah. Chris has also obtained accreditation in Biblical Aramaic and audited Biblical Greek levels 2 and 3 with the same University. This has engendered in her a further interest in the Septuagint.

She has been giving various bible studies to churchgoers in Biblical Hebrew since 2016. So, in between her ‘lawyering’ and biblical studies, she delights in gardening and delving into biblical archaeology.

Dr Michael Crane

Michael was born and raised in Asia. In addition to seminary lecturing, Michael is the director of a research thinktank called Radius Global Cities Network. Michael and his wife and two sons love living and serving in urban Southeast Asia. He also serves as a church planting trainer with Gospel City Network. In addition to writing a number of journal articles and book chapters, Michael has written or edited four books, including A Brief History of Christianity in Asia (2019) and Sowing Seeds of Change: Cultivating Transformation in the City (2015).

Dr Paul B Coulter

Paul lives in Northern Ireland with his Malaysian wife, Gar-Ling, and their two teenage children. He is Head of Ministry Operations with Living Leadership and Executive Director of the Centre for Christianity in Society. A Christian since childhood, he has taught practical theology for over 15 years. Currently, he is a visiting lecturer for the Irish Baptist College and the college of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. Previously he worked as a medical doctor and a cross-cultural pastor with the Belfast Chinese Christian Church. His main theological and ministry interests besides Bible teaching are apologetics, ethics, leadership and pastoral care.

Rev Dr Andrew Bain

Andrew is Vice Principal of Queensland Theological College, in Brisbane, Australia, where he has taught Church History and Christian Ethics since 2008. He also serves as Head of the Department of Christian Thought & History for the Australian College of Theology consortium of 16 evangelical theological colleges in Australia, and is a Presbyterian minister. Originally an economist, Andrew trained in theology at Moore College and did his postgraduate studies in Church History at the University of Cambridge and the University of Queensland. His PhD was on how some of the Latin Fathers interpreted the Gospels. Andrew also has postgraduate qualifications in philosophy and ethics, and received a university medal in Philosophy from Macquarie University. He has taught Church History and Ethics at several colleges in Australia and beyond, including on several occasions in Malaysia. He publishes primarily in the area of historical theology, but also occasionally on topics related to Christian Ethics and doctrine. Andrew is married to Robyn, who is a medical doctor and Christian ethicist, and has two daughters.  He became a Christian in his late teens by reading a Bible that was given to him for free.

Dr Lindsay Wilson

Lindsay practiced as a lawyer for 5 years before training for Anglican ministry at Moore Theological College, Sydney. He completed his PhD at the University of Melbourne, and for the last 34 years has been lecturing in Old Testament at Ridley College, Melbourne. During this time he served as Vice Principal for 10 years, and as Academic Dean for a further 9 years. His special interest is in Old Testament wisdom literature, having published a monograph of wisdom in the Joseph narrative, a commentary on Job in the Two Horizons series, and the revised Tyndale commentary on Proverbs. Lindsay has taught extensively in theological colleges in South and Southeast Asia. He is married to Clarissa and has 3 adult children.

Rt Rev Dr Paul Barker

Bishop Paul has been a bishop in the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne since late 2016. Before that, he lived in Malaysia for 7 years, teaching at Seminari Theoloji Malaysia and in various other seminaries in Asia and coordinating Langham Preaching in Asia.  Previously he was Vicar of Holy Trinity Doncaster in Melbourne for nearly 14 years. His PhD was in the Book of Deuteronomy and he also lectures in Preaching and in Biblical Theology.
